Wednesday 1st July – windsurf **** - The Manor, Felixstowe – mainl
Starboard formula with foil and Lightning 7.8m
Foil – 17.51 knot max, 16.25 knot ave ., 8.57 knot hour, 14.90 knot mile,
31.1 km., 11.33 knot alpha
After three crap sessions in a row I was due a good session and thankfully
I got it today :) Another OK forecast and after a phone call from Andy M we
met up again at The Manor at midday. With the wind cross off it is
difficult to pick a sail, in the end I went for 7.8 while Andy rigged 7.3.
Andy was first out and was soon flying everywhere as usual I was optimistic
as I headed out and was soon up and flying in a nice smooth sea :) It is
just such fun to be out on the foil and I am well and truly hooked, can’t
wait for my foil board to arrive, my first new board in 30 years!!!! We
then decided to head off downwind which is just the best feeling playing
with the waves, hardly any effort at all, just love it. We were doing
really long runs out to sea to keep in the wind; Andy reached The Dip
first, turned and headed back. The wind at The Dip is patchy being offshore
and I had one good run out before the wind dropped really light. I then got
a lump of weed on my mast so landed at The Fludgers to sort that. I then
had another long run out flying all the way before the wind dropped again,
meaning more slogging towards the pier! I was thinking it was going to take
a while to get back when the wind filled in, gusting to nearly 20 knots
making for some exciting sailing! I just can’t describe how exciting
sailing with both feet in the straps, hooked in trying to go broad, 17
knots feels like 35 knots!!!!!! With some big gust now coming through it
was time to call it a day, top session enjoyed by Andy, Richard and me with
loads of wind again forecast for the weekend :)
